Over the past few weeks I've had 2 meetings with what I think will become the Staff Portal team. The proposed Staff Portal will host a number of spaces. Staff will be able to access the portal externally and in most cases via their staff login. Information will be stored either behind or outside a firewall depending on the security requirements. My space is likely to be outside the firewall.
I gave my project the title "PD Share Space" and I am keen for staff to be able to access this space without too many restrictions thus the proposed structure is great. Now I'm confident of a home for my project the next step is to clarify issues of design, content and which tools to use.
I'm also keen to ensure staff will be able to add to the space and thought a wiki would be the best platform. I've been researching other similar spaces and really like how Sydney Institute of TAFE have used wikispaces.
This concept of a shared staff portal and a location that is easy to get to and access is a great idea. As part of your research have you talked to other Institutes about whether they have such a space? I am thinking that Bojan mentioned something about sharepoint at STA was a good way for him to write some PD teaser information and get into people's faces as they logged onto their computer in the morning. Perhaps a spot of research at our web conference today 23rd March might get some contacts or more research data as we move into a new research phase in April. Thanks for sharing:)
